View of Happurger See from Hohler Fels

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Houbirg is a mountain near Happurg in Middle Franconia with an abandoned Celtic oppidum of the same name. Remains of the walls, some of which are still ten meters high, have been preserved and, with a length of four and a half kilometers, enclose an area of almost one square kilometer. In addition, a prehistoric site, a castle stable and a tunnel complex built as part of the underground relocation bear witness to the history of the survey.

The Happurger Baggersee, located near the town of Happurg, is a popular bathing lake in the Hersbruck Alb region of Middle Franconia. The nearest towns are Hersbruck and Sulzbach-Rosenberg, but visitors from Nuremberg and Lauf also enjoy this small bathing lake. Swimmers and sunbathers meet at the Happurger Baggersee. The bathing lake (advertisement*) covers an area of 6 hectares and has a water depth of approximately 9 meters. There are beautiful lawns with trees around the lake, so there are also shady spots to be found in the summer. The lake's shore is often covered with bushes and trees, but in some places the lake is also accessible directly from the lawn. A small path for walkers and cyclists leads around the Happurger Baggersee, allowing you to completely circumnavigate the lake. https://wandern-essen.de/happurger-baggersee-badesee/

The village of Simonshofen developed from the farm of a Sigman mentioned in 1360. Hop cultivation was mentioned there as early as 1375. In 1333, Konrad Groß from Nuremberg acquired the goods and land, which he brought into the foundation he had established for the Heilig-Geist-Spital. For more than 600 years, the hospital office exercised the authority of the community, paid a school teacher and a forester. In 1806 the place came to the district of Lauf an der Pegnitz. Due to the administrative reforms at the beginning of the 19th century in the Kingdom of Bavaria, the town became a rural community with the second municipal edict. In the course of the municipal area reform in Bavaria, the municipality of Simonshofen was incorporated into the city of Lauf on January 1, 1973.[4][5] In 2017 Simonshofen had 735 inhabitants. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simonshofen A pretty little place. With the bike it is easy to go up and down on a bike path that is easy to drive. A nice connection between Lauf a.d. Pegnitz and Eckenthal
