This striking wooden hut is the widely known pavilion at the Unterailsfeld viewpoint, which is occasionally also referred to as a "viewing pulpit" or simply a shelter. It perches like an eagle's nest, spectacularly on the exposed rock faces of the so-called Unterailsfelder Wand, high above the valley floor. The rustic, open wooden construction with a solid gable roof offers reliable weather protection from three sides, while it is completely open towards the front, facing the cliff edge. Directly in front of the hut, a sturdy railing protects hikers on the steeply sloping wall. The special feature of this shelter is its unique geographical orientation, which allows for the iconic "two-village view" and thus one of the most comprehensive panoramic views in the entire southern Ailsbach valley. As the narrow Jura valley describes a slight curve at this point, one looks from the wooden hut as if from a bird's-eye view, simultaneously at two places. Upstream to the northeast, the tranquil Jura village of Oberailsfeld appears with its distinctive juniper slopes and the baroque spire of St. Burkhard's church. Downstream to the southwest, the eye follows the narrow, meandering ribbon of the Ailsbach directly down to the houses of Unterailsfeld.

A really beautiful hut belonging to the H.T.V. Edelweiß Weißenohe und Umgebung e.V. (Weißenohe local group of the DAV Forchheim section). As beautiful as the hut is, it is unfortunately (currently?) only open on Fridays from 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (https://www.htv-weissenohe.de/veranstaltungen.htm), so we unfortunately found the doors locked on a super sunny Sunday.
