A popular photo spot - sitting majestically on the throne with the castle tower in the background.

The "Throne" was commissioned by the House of Baden in 2015 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the city of Karlsruhe, in memory of Margrave Karl III Wilhelm of Baden-Durlach. Designed by an artist, it was then cast in bronze and finally installed at the palace. The margravial throne rests on a tree stump, inviting anyone who wishes to sit and play the margrave for a moment. The tree motif is a reminder that Karl III Wilhelm envisioned the founding of Karlsruhe in the nearby Hardtwald forest. Source: https://m.karlsruhe.de/db/kunst/thron.html?kl=0

Very quiet, with a distinctive surface. It's a good place to test the stiffness or suspension of your bike.

Near Germersheim, the cycle path leads past the railway bridge below, paved with excellent asphalt, to the Old Brickworks. A great section. It's best to start early in the morning, then you'll have the race track (almost) to yourself.
