The baroque estate with a manor house is surrounded by a quarry stone wall and was used by the Mallinckrodt family. The complex includes a small garden and a pavilion. The stately half-timbered building on a solid base was built from 1668 to 1684 on the foundations of a previous building. It is covered with a half-hipped roof. In 1878 it was extended to the south across the moats. In the same year, the double-sided flight of steps was laid out. Inside, the building has been redesigned several times for educational purposes. The baroque figure of Mary with child on the south-east facade is remarkable. For a long time, the castle served as an economic women's school and had been affiliated with the Reifenstein Association since 1912. The owner was the Society for Agricultural Women's Education GmbH in Nordborchen. From 1942 it was run as the provincial rural women's school in Nordborchen, from 1970 as the Mallinckrodthof women's educational institution, later: Mallinckrodthof vocational college, occupational field of nutrition and home economics. The building now houses a wedding room for the Borchen registry office and the "Genusswerkstatt" café and restaurant. Furthermore, the adult education center, the shopping cart, the consortium and Borchen associations use some of the rooms.

Coming from the main street, the front promises a lot. However, you should definitely go further into the palace gardens. The size is gigantic and forms a great backdrop.

The first written mention of Hamborn comes from the 9th century in a document from the monastery of Corvey. Between 1137 and 1140, Hamborn was donated to the Paderborn cathedral chapter (date of the burnt deed of donation according to the Westphalian document book). The result is the obedience of Hamborn. The origins of the castle go back to two estates that were bought by the von Hartmann family in the mid-19th century and combined into one estate. The family built what is now the east wing of the castle.

The castle park is always worthwhile. E.g. when there are theme days, such as wine festivals, beer festivals or bicycle days. The green area is always well maintained.
