May 9, 2025, Dowses Beach

Dowses Beach is a clean, quiet beach that has great views of East Bay, Great Island and Hyannis Port. The road that passes by the beach is a dead end, but it is a quiet road with little traffic.

Paved paths in the park connect to the Cape Cod Rail Trail and the trail into Chatham. Mid-way between Wellfleet and Dennis, great to ride away from traffic.

Coast Guard Beach is a popular swimming beach during the summer season. Further south along the coast is Nauset Spit, where the ocean water flows into the Nauset Marsh during the tides. This is where writer Henry Beston lived in a beach house when he wrote The Outermost House in 1928. The book describes life on the beach in detail during the four seasons. https://www.nps.gov/caco/planyourvisit/coast-guard-beach-eastham.htm

February 9, 2024, Chatham Light Beach

The Chatham Light and Chatham Light Beach are on the "elbow" of Cape Cod and are an iconic part of the area. The lighthouse is still in operation by the U.S. Coast Guard station, where Search and Rescue, maritime law enforcement, and Homeland Security missions are carried out from here. From the road you can see both the lighthouse and the beach, where there are often seals (and occasionally sharks!) swimming in the water.
