June 25, 2025, Cape Cod Rail Trail — Bell's Neck Segment

The short segment of the Cape Cod Rail Trail skirts Bells Neck Conservation Lands and overlooks the water. You can often see swans, geese, and other birds, as well as turtles and frogs from the bike trail.

Paved paths in the park connect to the Cape Cod Rail Trail and the trail into Chatham. Mid-way between Wellfleet and Dennis, great to ride away from traffic.

Hinckleys Pond is also known as Pleasant Lake and is classified as a Great Pond due to its 172-acre size. It has a well-maintained beach with plenty of activities. The Cape Cod Rail Trail passes nearby, which is a super byway. This is a great place to take a break, especially as nearby you have Pleasant Lake Pizza Shark, a well-known local eatery.

Long Pond is huge freshwater pond in Brewster and Harwich (the town line crosses down the middle of it). The Cape Cod Rail Trail runs right along the western shore of it past some private beaches. Please respect the local residents and stay off the beaches and on the trail.

Sheep's Pond is a small kettle pond in Brewster, Massachusetts. This pretty pond is right down a steep hill from the Cape Cod Rail Trail and has a pretty, but small public beach with porta potties. It's also known as "the clearest pond in Brewster," so it's a nice place to cool off if riding around the area in the summer!

Once an Algonquin agricultural site for growing crops like corn, squash, beans, pumpkins and sunflowers, the green space just north of the trail is now an uncultivated green space full of wetlands, meadows, woods and wildflowers. This is also the location of the famous "Warbler Alley," so if you're an avid birder it might be worth dismounting and taking a few minutes to walk, listen, and watch for those namesake birds.
