Schwedenlöcher

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

The Schwedenlöcher are a particularly exciting section and my personal highlight in Saxon Switzerland. This section got its name during the Thirty Years' War, when farmers from the village of Rathenwalde fled there to escape the Swedish soldiers and occupiers of the village. In my opinion, this is the most beautiful gorge path in Saxon Switzerland that I know of. This particularly wild path has something almost fairytale-like about it and at times you feel like you are in the jungle.

Schrammstein Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

Because the Schrammsteine are one of the highlights in Saxon Switzerland because of the great panoramic views, it can of course be overcrowded here in summer. In winter, however, comparatively few hikers go here and there are no traffic jams along the narrow paths. The view at dusk is highly recommended. The descent from the Schrammsteinen takes about half an hour, so you should arrive in Postelwitz before it gets dark.

The Schrammsteintor is one of the most stunning rock formations in the entire national park. Towering towering the rocks on both sides above you. Climbers love the steep walls and in good weather you can see them high up and on top of the Schrammsteine.

If you have the time and, above all, the courage, you should not miss the ascent through the ladder ladder. A long and narrow staircase leads up through a narrowing gorge. At the top, you will be rewarded with a phenomenal view. Take care of the gap between the stairs and the rock face, then you are on the safe side.

A must in Saxon Switzerland, also worthwhile because there are still many highlights in a relatively small area.

Wild hell

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

I can highly recommend the “Wild Hell”. It is surprising that there is no sign at the beginning of the gorge about the difficulty. Without appropriate footwear, nothing can be done here and for those who are inexperienced, it is quite an experience. By the way – more up than down!!!

View from the Breite Kluft plateau

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Breite-Kluft-Aussicht is another breathtaking view on the edge of the Malerweg. The view can hardly be missed and is right on the Malerweg. The area offers an ideal place to take a break and soak up the sun. Especially in the afternoon, the low winter sun lets the surroundings appear in a beautiful light. If you stay that long, you should of course feel comfortable hiking in the twilight and have a flashlight with you, especially for the descent to the Schrammstein.

in the Uttewalder Grund are strong rock formations and overhangs, very romantic. In the warm summer it is still cool on the trails. Simply a must!

Wildschützensteig

Highlight • Trail

Steep ascent to the Schrammsteinen, but without much climbing. Good expansion given by ladders and stairs. Strenuous, but you will be very well rewarded by the later prospects at the Schrammsteinen. The trail may only be used on the ascent.

Between the towns of Wehlen and Uttewalde lies the wild, romantic Uttewalder Grund, which is pleasantly cool even in summer. The Uttewalder Grund is a side valley of the Wehlener Grund, which in turn opens up into the Elbe breakthrough valley.

For me, the Uttewalder Grund is one of the insider tips in Saxon Switzerland! You always have the feeling of diving into another world. Impressive rock formations, small caves and the rock gate, there is a lot to discover. In contrast to "the" sights in Saxon Switzerland, it is not yet overcrowded here, we hardly met anyone.

With its strong rock formations and the well-known Felsentor, the Uttewalder Grund is a romantic and mystical attraction for day trippers. Only at midday in midsummer does the sun break through and conjure up an idyllic play of colors between the trees and rocks. If the winter was particularly cold, you can still discover icicles here in May.
