This sacral wayside shrine is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Flüe (after the village of Flüeli in the Swiss canton of Obwalden), but he is much better known by the simple name he himself used, "Bruder Klaus". He lived from 1417 to 1487 and is revered as a hermit, mystic, and peacemaker. The feast day of Bruder Klaus, who would surely have appreciated the simple yet dignified design here, in the calendar of saints is on March 21 (the day of his death). He is the national saint of Switzerland.

People are nailing signs to trees, they don't want cyclists there. The deer can't stand that or something 🤷🏻

The forest and wet meadows in this area belong to the Lichtenhagen nature reserve. Until the 1970s, clay was dug out here for the production of roof tiles. After that, the water accumulated in the former clay pits and a diverse habitat with still waters, wet forests and heathland was created. Rare and particularly protected species of birds, amphibians and reptiles live here, such as the black-tailed lizard, sand lizard and moor frog. (Information according to the information board on site). In this clearing, the wooden sculpture of a worker is a reminder of the old, manual mining in the clay pits. On some paths you can clearly see a reddish color, which is due to the clay content in the rock. The wet meadows and heathland are also explained with the above background knowledge. Conclusion: Varied landscape with exciting and easy-to-ride paths and trails.

Here you can relax and cool off your feet while taking a break. Unfortunately the park does not offer any shade.
