Lower Waimano Trail and Upper Waimano Trail run parallel to each other and meet again after the first section, so actually it's up to you, which trail you prefer. The biggest advantage of the Lower Waimano Trail is, that it's a little further away from the street, and you don't have to hike along a fence. If you're hiking the loop, it makes sense to use both trails in one direction each.

Yes, as many other trails on Oʻahu, Waimano Ridge Trail also includes plenty of nice views! But the undoubted highlights of this trail are the tunnels, that were previously used for irrigation. If you're claustrophobic or one of the tunnels is in bad condition, there is usually a path leading around the tunnels as well. As it is an out-and-back-trail, it is up to you whether you want to hike until the end of the trail or return earlier.

Even though this little 'hike' through Wahiawa Botanical Garden probably won't get your heart pumping, it's still a very nice stroll through nature with many interesting information plaques about the local flora and fauna. The perfect recovery before your next, challenging hike!

Oʻahu generally offers pleasant hiking conditions year-round due to its tropical climate. However, the drier season (roughly May to October) might be preferable for ridge trails as they can become muddy and slippery during the wetter months (November to April). Always check local weather forecasts before heading out, regardless of the season.
Given the varied terrain and tropical climate, it's advisable to bring plenty of water, appropriate footwear (hiking boots for challenging trails, comfortable shoes for easy walks), sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and insect repellent. For longer or more remote trails, consider packing snacks and a basic first-aid kit. Always be prepared for sudden rain showers.
While some trailheads on Oʻahu are accessible by public transport (TheBus), many of the more remote or challenging trails might require a car. It's recommended to research specific bus routes and stops relative to your chosen trailhead in advance. Parking availability can also vary, so planning ahead is key.
