In 955 AD, Hungarians attacked, among others, the Wessobrunn Monastery. The majority of the monks had already fled by this time, only 7 monks, including Abbot Thiento, had remained in the monastery. Ultimately, however, they too fled, but after only a short distance near Kreuzberg, just a few hundred meters from the monastery, they were caught by the Hungarians and executed. The Hunnenstein, on which the execution took place, can still be found in the chapel today, although the chapel itself has been renewed and altered several times. All seven monks were later venerated as martyrs, and Abbot Thiento was even beatified.
