October 25, 2025, Communication Tower (Middle Franconia)

The radio tower on the Hesselberg is the summit's prominent landmark and a key point of orientation for hikers and runners. It stands on the highest point in Middle Franconia (689 m) and was originally built as a telecommunications tower for the German Federal Post Office. Today, it serves for broadcasting and microwave radio communication and is operated by Deutsche Funkturm GmbH. With its distinctive silhouette, the tower rises above the tree line and can be seen from afar, even from the Ries crater or the Altmühl Valley. Right next to it are the summit cross, the geological nature trail, and a small viewing platform offering views as far as the Alps on a clear day. In the early morning, when mist rises from the valleys and the tower glows in the first sunlight, it appears almost like a silent sentinel over the landscape.

From the Hesselberg to the south, the view extends far across the Franconian hills, over golden fields and dark forest islands. In the distance, on a clear day, the bluish contours of the Alps emerge – barely tangible, yet clearly noticeable. The morning light settles like a veil over the landscape, mist rises from the valleys, and the wind carries the scent of damp earth and fallen leaves. A silent moment between sky and land.

The highlight of Klingenweiher Park is the golden Weihersteig (Wilher Trail), which leads from the water lily, through the orchard, along the rest pavilion, past the beekeeper's house, to the "Bergrose" (Mountain Rose) and a viewing platform. The major project in Klingenweiher Park is the development of the former rubble dump, which is now a major component of Klingenweiher Park. At the foot of the Weihersteig (Wilher Trail) is a large children's playground that will delight even the littlest hearts. Among the beautifully blooming meadows, you'll find the artwork "God is Infinite," which has found a home even after the garden show. it is simply fascinating to watch the model gliders in the summer as they silently and skillfully make their rounds above the heads of hikers

The many small paths and paths, in large numbers especially on the south side of the mountain, in slightly smaller numbers but just as attractive on the north side, enable a variety of walks, hikes and discoveries. The small and narrow paths are also a real attraction for children
