Parish Church of the Epiphany Treffelstein's church history clearly points to the Schönthal Monastery, founded in 1153, and its branch in Biberbach. The first Biberbach church and cemetery were built in the 13th century. From there, the surrounding area, including Treffelstein, received pastoral care. From 1554 to 1626, the citizens of Treffelstein had to submit to four conversions, accompanied by wars and changes of government. Starting in 1628, Schönthal, Biberbach, and Treffelstein ultimately became Catholic again. When the Swedes invaded Treffelstein in 1634, they plundered and burned the church. The church also suffered extensive damage. Wolf Paul von Sazenhofen had barely repaired the castle and church when another fire struck Treffelstein in 1695, destroying the castle, parts of the village, and the church. When a new castle was built in 1711, church services were held there or outdoors until the construction of the new, public church was completed in 1729. In 1927, planning began for a church extension. The church was completed in 1934, its interior was decorated with paintings two years later, and consecrated in 1937. The hall church consists of a nave covered with a gable roof, a three-sided closed chancel to the north, and a three-sided closed chapel on the east side of the nave, both retained from the previous church built between 1727 and 1729. The choir flanking tower on the west side of the chancel is covered with a pyramid roof. The top floor of the choir flanking tower houses the clock tower and, behind the sound arcades designed as bifora, the bell cage. The interior of the nave is spanned by a wooden beam ceiling. The frescoes on the walls and the cycle of pictures depicting the Stations of the Cross were created in 1936/37 by Georg Winkler, who trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. The church furnishings include a high altar, the reredos of which was hung on the west wall. Source: Excerpts from www.wikipedia.de / www.treffelstein.de

You can take the Silbersee circular trail over the dam or simply make yourself comfortable on the lawn or the installed wave lounger.
