The Hemet Maze Stone trail offers a fascinating, short walk through the arid chaparral landscape of Reinhardt Canyon, leading to a truly unique historical landmark. You'll follow an old, overgrown asphalt road that winds through rocky formations, providing views of the valley below. While the path is generally easy, some sections can be uneven, so sturdy shoes are a good idea for this distinctive journey.

This accessible route is managed as a county park, meaning there's no admission or parking fee, making it an easy stop for a dose of history. The trail is short, just 0.6 miles (0.9 km) with 87 feet (26 metres) of elevation gain, taking only about 16 minutes to complete. It's a great option for a quick outing, especially during the milder California seasons, though shade is limited.

The main draw is the Hemet Maze Stone itself, a prehistoric petroglyph carved into a large sandstone boulder, recognized as California Historical Landmark No. 557. Its intricate, labyrinth-like pattern is unlike other regional rock art, and its origin remains a mystery, adding to its allure. This easy 16-minute hike is a perfect way to experience a piece of enigmatic local history.
