The monument, created by the Dresden sculptors Köppl and Polte, was originally intended to be erected in May 1913 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the city fire. However, at the beginning of the First World War, such idyllic times were out of the question, and it was entirely out of place. On the globe stands the Tree of Life, bearing golden fruit. Eve, the mother of life, offers Adam (Hebrew for "man," meaning humankind) the tempting fruit, which, according to the biblical story, is meant to lead to the knowledge of good and evil. https://blickwechsel.com/jakobsweg/auszeit-am-jakobsweg-2/der-paradiesbrunnen/

In 2007, the Old Market Square was completely redesigned, with a media tower displaying constantly changing messages. A metal prism was installed in this tower, controlled by a light barrier. When triggered by visitors, the prism in the media tower moves and changes its shape. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bischofswerda

The tower stands on the site where the first town hall was built in the 16th century. The kaleidoscopic cycle of art in the spire depicts highlights of the town's development: the coat of arms, the great city fire, trades, and connection to the supra-regional railway network. The tower has been controversial in Bischofswerda since its erection in the summer of 2007. Many oppose it, calling it a gallows. https://www.saechsische.de/lokales/bautzen-lk/bischofswerda/was-soll-der-turm-am-markt-QZR6JGBCAELRDVNXI7QUIU3SKQ.html

In 2007, the bust of Frederick Augustus the Just was re-erected to mark the city's 780th anniversary. It returned to the Old Market Square and has since been shining in new splendor. https://kulturraum-on.de/de_DE/einrichtungen/marktplatz-bischofswerda.702511
