Catholic Parish Church of St. Vitus The current parish church of St. Vitus was built between 1877 and 1880. It is Olfen's fourth parish church. The First Three Churches in Olfen The first church in Olfen was built in the 9th century. When this wooden church became too small for the growing congregation, it was demolished, and the second parish church was built in the Olfen area between 1100 and 1150. The third church building was built between 1450 and 1460. By the end of the 19th century, however, this church had also become too small. Olfen now had a population of around 3,000. Fourth Church The architect Hilgar Hertel designed the current church with 800 seats and 400 standing places, and with dimensions of 46.1 meters in length and 21.5 meters in width. The tower was to be 66 meters high. Since at that time no thought was given to monument protection, it was decided to demolish the 15th-century church piece by piece for cost reasons.

The paths in the park are beautifully landscaped and lead through woodland and open spaces. A golf course is integrated into the park; visitors are asked to stay on the paths.

A highlight of the region. The park is expansive and the castle itself is beautiful from the outside. The moat is in very good condition, reflecting significant investment. The castle is not accessible; gates protect access over a wide area.

The market square itself is, in my opinion, the only ugly thing about the otherwise beautiful town of Olfen. But the restaurants are truly impressive! I've eaten my way through it over the years and haven't found a single dud. Shopping??? Not really.
