The museum has been located in the Imperial Gate of the city of Borna and the adjacent buildings towards the market since 1974. The Imperial Gate was built in 1723 in the Baroque style. The upper floors were intended as apartments for chimney sweeps and locksmiths. The lower floor for the guard. It remained as a detention and prison site until 1945. After extensive renovations, it was used as a museum for a permanent exhibition in 1999.
