July 26, 2024, View of Kendrick Peak

As you ascend toward Snow Bowl or make your way back down, this is a fantastic spot to pause and enjoy the view of Kendrick Peak. It's one of the highest peaks in the San Francisco volcanic field.

In the desert state of Arizona, the Arizona Snowbowl is something special. Mount Humphreys, Arizona's highest mountain, towers up next to you, becoming a skier's El Dorado every winter and into early May. The ski resort, with six chairlifts and two lodges, covers about 1 percent of the entire San Francisco Peaks.

This beginner friendly loop offers a fun reward halfway through with the ruins an old, abandoned cabin. On some of the basalt rock around the area, you might even be able to find some pictographs etched into the walls. The water of the actual springs is rarely running, but the ruins in the middle of the loop make this hike so worthwhile.

Take a moment to appreciate this wonderful trail-side view. You get a view of peaks soaring above treeline in the distance while standing in a field on the edge of an aspen grove intermingled with a pine forest.

If you’re climbing up to Snowbowl, may as well stop by the Peking lot in your way down and enjoy the view!
