Blue Lake is the first lake along the Green Creek Trail. It is set in a beautiful wooded area and gives you a great view of Black Mountain. The banks of the lake are a great spot for a break to soak up the beauty of the area.

At 8,700 feet, Ebbetts Pass is a spectacular high mountain pass that is the fulcrum point between two state parks namely Calaveras Big Trees and Grover Hot Springs. It is also a cross over point for the Pacific Crest Trail. It sits just below imposing Ebbetts Peak at 9,160 feet which is just a short easy hike away.

Due to this the Lodge just on the Nevada border side has all of the requisite Nevada slot machines and black jack tables. The lake itself if popular for fishing, sailing, and other watersports; with a number of hiking and ATV trails around the area as well.

Ebbetts Pass is one of the first roads you will cross after you left the Sierras at Sonora Pass. If you are lucky, there might be some trail angels around. The pass is also a historic place: Jedediah Smith, the legendary pioneer crossed the Sierra Nevada over Ebbetts Pass.

There are two opportunities worth digressing a few feet off the PCT to look over the edge of the ridge, with sweeping views of the eastern sierra and down to the round blue expanse of Leavitt Lake, shimmering thousand feet below. Staying just on the PCT trail one would completely miss this exceptional view. A steep trail leading down to the lake branches off the PCT a mile further south.
