Windmills have existed in Wanzer since at least 1611. This particular windmill was built in 1805, though originally in Pollitz, 3 km away. It was moved to Wanzer in 1868 and is now maintained by many volunteers. We were lucky enough to witness an interior inspection.

The old post windmill was restored and revived by an association from the village of Wanzer - this required extensive financing. Today the mill is even operational and can always be visited on the German Mill Day (Whitsun Monday).

Wanzer has been known as a mill location since 1611. The Marten mill stood on the site of today's mill, on the Mühlenberg am Alanddeich, until 1946. At this historic location, the mill association of the small village rebuilt today's post mill between 2001 and 2007 with incredible commitment - partly from parts of a second mill that originally served at the other end of the village until the 1950s. Today's fully functional post mill is not only impressive in size, but also has an extremely exciting inner workings, which you can get to know very closely in terms of its properties and functions during a tour of the mill. A staircase leads from the Mühlenberg to the Mühlengrund, an idyllic resting place with a direct view of the windmill and Storchenhorst. The seating groups were designed from millstones and beams from the dismantled mill and convey a real “mill feeling” during a leisurely break in the countryside.
