Just a few steps from the main road, the Ravbar Tower is very beautiful, and the view of the Planinska Cave and the source of the Unica River is also worth a visit.

Planina Polje has a unique geological structure. Unica, is one of the best known and most scenic karst poljes in Slovenia. The meadows along the meanders of the Unica tell a story not only about the area's numerous unusual natural features, but also about the life of the local people, who adapted to the river's rhythm of flooding. Planina Polje is the meeting point of several karst waterways, and its edge is full of karst springs, ponors and swallow holes. Some of the swallow holes have been walled and covered by iron grids to prevent clogging. The best known among them are the so called 'Putick's Wells' (Putickove štirne), unique pieces of technical heritage named after the famous karst explorer Viljem Putick.

The ruins of the old Baroque castle rise above the Unica River gorge in the southern part of the Planina Plain. The Hošperk Castle (Haasberg) was built by the Eggenberg princes at the beginning of the 17th century, at the foot of an old medieval castle that was destroyed by an earthquake. At that time, the castle was considered the most powerful Baroque castle in Slovenia. It was famous for its rich interior and beautiful park, which unfortunately is only partially preserved today. The last owner of the castle was the Windischgrätz family, who purchased it in 1846. During the Second World War, the nobles emigrated to Italy and the castle was occupied first by the Italian army, then by the German army, and in 1944 it was burned down. The valuable interior furnishings, the family archive and the family tomb of the last owners of the Windischgrätz Castle were completely destroyed.

The terrain around Cerkniško Lake is quite diverse. You'll find relatively flat sections, especially when the lake recedes and reveals its bed, allowing you to cycle directly through what is sometimes a lake. The surrounding Javornik Hills and Mount Slivnica offer more challenging routes with significant elevation gains and panoramic views, providing a mix of experiences from gentle rides to demanding climbs.
While many routes are moderate to difficult, the unique landscape offers opportunities for easier rides, particularly on the flatter sections of the lakebed when it's dry. Spring and autumn generally provide pleasant temperatures and varied scenery, while summer can be warm but allows for cycling when the lake is at its lowest.
