March 3, 2025, Round Top Lake

Round Top Lake sits at the base of the towering mountains of The Sisters and Round Top. Take your time to embrace the beauty of this turquoise alpine lake. There are several trails close by that take you deeper into the wilderness and up the mountain range.

Beautiful, small alpine lake. The banks of the lake are surrounded by forest, so it is a great, peaceful spot for a rest.

Pretty, rock-rimmed Lake Margaret was and still is a nice place to swim, but much of the shade along the trail here was destroyed in a recent fire. You'll also need to cross several streams to get here; they can run high in the spring.

Some rocky switchbacks will get you up Carson Pass. Parts of the trail might be covered with snow up until early summer, so be careful at the steep exposed sections.

At Carson Pass you will find an information center with a small shop and some benches. Pit toilets are also available. If you are lucky, there might be some trail magic.

Very scenic trail along the contours of the upper Woods Creek drainage, gently climbing from Carson Pass. Beautiful views to Capels Lake and the surrounding peaks. At this elevation snow can linger into early in the season.
