Burcht van Kuinre, or also Kuinderburcht, is the name of two consecutive castles near Kuinre. The Lords of Kuinre resided here in Flevoland. Have you discovered the remains yet? From the castle, ships on the Zuiderzee were attacked and shipping to the Hanseatic cities was controlled. In the Kuinderbos you can see for yourself how big it was. The Kuinderberg offers a view of the island with the remnants of the castle. During the walk, there is still something surprising to discover. In the 12th century, the glory of Kuinre arose on the border between Friesland and the Upper Monastery of Utrecht. Castle no. 1 The first castle of Kuinre was probably built between 1165 and 1197. The De Rietvink windmill, built in 1855 on the Grote Veenpolder, was fitted with an American windmill in 1921 to keep the area dry. After being decommissioned in 1964, it became a holiday home. Around 2005, the windmill fell into disrepair, but new owners began a thorough restoration in 2008 with the help of millwrights and volunteers. In 2010, De Rietvink turned again for the first time in 16 years and has been in regular operation ever since. Next to the windmill is a charming tea garden with a terrace for a refreshing drink in the sun!

I found the view from "Eetcafé Portunus" more beautiful because you can see the entire lake. Huge barges sometimes cross the lake on their way to or from the IJsselmeer. If you miss the ferry, it will arrive again about 25 minutes later. Price June 2025: €1.50 per person, including bike.
