A shady path winds along the Åbackarna directly by the Motala ström, which connects the city center of Norrköping with Himmelstalund. On the way is Folkparken, as well as the Café Färgargården with a view of the water. Below Kneippen, the Rhododendrondalen awaits you with deciduous forest and blooming rhododendrons – a beautiful reason for a break during the blooming season in late spring.

This is a superb ride, the ride along the canal is fascinating with all the locks and sliding bridges, when I did it (4 July 2023) there were a lot of boats using it. I found some of the single track sections, fairly tough but I managed on my city bike. If I was to do it again, I think a gravel bike would probably work best as there are a few quite long road sections. Views were beautiful throughout the trip which took me about eight hours, including stops for cake, coffee and admiring the view. I think had l not done that, I would’ve probably taken about six hours to complete it. There are some sections of the route which you cannot use because the single track is overgrown completely, but it is easy to find a work around.
