The Cabús Pass is a mountain pass that crosses the Pyrenees at 2,302 m above sea level. It is located on the border between Andorra and Spain, between the parish of La Massana and the municipality of Alins. Only the Andorran side is paved. From Alins, in the High Pyrenees, the climb is impressive and involves paths and trails that are not always in good condition.

Pass between the Spanish and French sides of the main ridge. For those coming from the Spanish side who find the direct ascent via the summit ridge to Pica d'Estats too difficult, descend slightly to the north here and cross an (easier) pass between Estats and Montcalm. From there, both peaks are accessible. Some of my photos show the pass from a slightly elevated vantage point on the way to Pic de Sotllo, another 3,000-meter peak that can be climbed from the pass.

Ridden from Sort, it’s a good steady climb, with enough small variations in gradient to provide moments of relief. Great bar half way up too. The descent back to Sort is excilerating.

Port de Cabús is a mountain pass on the border between Andorra and Spain, known for its stunning scenery and appeal for hiking, cycling, and other mountain activities. Being on the border, Port de Cabús has particular significance, as it has historically been used as a cross-border crossing for trade and, in more recent times, as a less conventional route to cross between Andorra and Spain. Although the pass itself has no formal border control, it is important to carry documentation when crossing from one country to the other.

It's a family-friendly ski resort nestled within the Alt Pirineu Natural Park, offering slopes for all skill levels, a pioneering snow park, and a leisure and adventure park with activities like sledding, tubing, and a treetop adventure park. Its north-facing slopes ensure excellent snow quality in winter, and the panoramic views from Pic de l'Orri are exceptional.
Several passes in Pallars Sobirà have rich historical significance. Port de la Bonaigua was historically a crucial route for the movement of people and goods between Val d'Aran and Catalonia. This challenging route offers stunning alpine scenery, including glacial lakes and impressive views of other 3,000-meter peaks. Another demanding option is Monestero Pass (2,877 m), which provides beautiful views of Lake Peguera and is part of challenging trails within the Alt Pirineu Natural Park.
The best time to visit depends on your planned activities. For cycling, motorbiking, and hiking on most passes, late spring to early autumn (May to October) offers the most favorable weather conditions. Passes like Port de la Bonaigua are accessible year-round, though snow clearance is necessary in winter. For skiing and snow activities, winter (December to April) is ideal, especially at resorts like Port Ainé.
