The Azov Wave Bridge is a pedestrian bridge connecting the Obolon Embankment to the recreational area of Obolonsky Island. Officially opened on Kyiv Day, May 24, 2024, the bridge's construction began in 2020, initiated by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and funded by Ukrainian patrons. However, work was halted after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. Construction resumed with targeted funds from international donors, including the Metropolis of Paris and Taiwan. The project was designed by architect Andriy Myrhorodskyi, who also created the Glass Bridge on Volodymyrska Hill. Spanning 164 meters in length and 4 meters in width, the Azov Wave Bridge is constructed from 300 tons of metal produced at the Mariupol plant, Azovstal, utilizing a special technology. Each block weighs between 2 to 7 tons. It had been the last production from the metallurgical plant, which was destroyed by Russian forces during the fighting in 2022. This pedestrian bridge has quickly become a favorite spot for family outings, leisurely walks, and photo opportunities. Its unique wave-like design draws numerous visitors, with five waves symbolizing the dynamic flow of the Dnipro River. The bridge features LED lighting and musical accompaniment, with motion sensors activating the music.
