Great single track with good surfaces. One short really steep bit. Only e-bikes can make it!

Arklet Waterfall flows from Loch Arklet into Loch Lomond over a cascading set of rocks. From the path along the top of the water, you're afforded a bird's eye perspective of the falls as it tumbles downwards into the loch's still waters.

Take the train to Tarbet Station, and the boat from Tarbet Pier to Inversnaid for a great adventure without the car

Perhaps the best accommodation on the West Highland Way: lovingly furnished in an old church with modern showers and a small, well-kept meadow for tents. The food is great. So if you want to take a break from trail food, then this is definitely the place to stay!

About 1.5 km above Inversnaid is the Inversnaid Bunkhouse - lovingly furnished in an old church including a really excellent restaurant. Because the operators know that the WHW walkers hardly want to walk up the mountain after this stage, they offer their guests a shuttle. In my WHW experience, this was the nicest overnight stay on the whole trail!

The main access to Loch Arklet is via the scenic B829 road from Aberfoyle. This single-track road runs past Loch Ard and Loch Chon, leading to the loch. There is limited parking available near the Inversnaid RSPB reserve and at the Stronachlachar Pier on the nearby Loch Katrine, so it's advisable to arrive early, especially on weekends.
Yes, the region offers several options suitable for families. While many trails involve some hills, the path along the northern shore of Loch Arklet, part of The Great Trossachs Path, is relatively gentle and provides excellent lochside views without significant climbs. For a dedicated family activity, the nearby Loch Lomond Faerie Trail is a popular and magical experience for younger children.
Dogs are generally welcome on the trails around Loch Arklet, but the area is home to livestock and sensitive wildlife, including ground-nesting birds. It is essential to keep your dog under close control at all times, and on a lead where required by signage, particularly between April and July during the bird breeding season.
The area is renowned for its waterfalls. The nearby Inversnaid Falls, where the Arklet Water tumbles into Loch Lomond, is a spectacular sight and a highlight of many routes. For a challenging walk that takes in this feature, consider the Arklet Waterfall – Inversnaid Falls loop from Crianlarich, which offers rewarding views.
