Dating from the late Bronze Age, the hillfort at Clogher was situated at an important location along the valley floor between the mountains. A large amount of trade and traffic would have passed this way so a high viewpoint would have been needed.

From the road you get a clear view of Brackenridge's Folly. Also known as Trimble's Monument, it is the mausoleum of George Brackenridge who is buried upside down at the base and in the centre of three coffins. He is was a barrister and landlord and it is said he had the tower built as his final resting place so that; 'the squirearchy who had looked down on him during his lifetime were compelled to look up to him after his death'.
