A fish ladder or fishway is a hydraulic engineering facility on flowing waters to enable fish to overcome migration barriers in the form of weirs, hydroelectric power plants and, if necessary, waterfalls during fish migration. (Source: Wikipedia)

Between 1934 and 1938, the lake was dug by hand by the Reich Labor Service on the orders of the National Socialists. The water level of Lake Rantzauer is regulated by damming the Krückau, which feeds it. This intervention in nature and the associated interruption of the hiking trail for the local fish world caused problems in the past. Therefore, in 1981, a nine-stage fish ladder was built at the weir on the castle island, via which the fish could now continue their migration to the upper spawning grounds. (Source: Wikipedia)

In the immediate vicinity of the castle island are the functioning water mill and a high storage building from the 19th century. The mill was largely restored after a fire in 1940; the two overshot water wheels are put into operation every year on German Mill Day. As the mill houses a pottery shop, part of the interior is accessible to visitors. (Source: Wikipedia)
