The chapel is very beautiful, the sisters unfortunately partly intrusive. You are touched without asking. A Catholic nun should actually know that only a priest has the authority to bless by laying on hands (except one's own parents) and even if she doesn't know that, there's still the normal human decency of asking strangers if they want to be touched.

Wonderful view of the country and the destination Hornillos del Camino. At the beginning of May, the fields all around form a sea of different shades of green.

A small chapel, like the ones you often find along the way. If it's open, you get a stamp and can rest and recharge your batteries.

The Meseta - cycling as meditation. Long, lonely stretches. The landscape becomes a part of you and little by little your bike rides with you and not the other way around....

The Isar region offers a selection of 7 dedicated running routes. These routes cater to various fitness levels, with 5 moderate and 2 difficult trails available for exploration.
The Isar provides a diverse running experience. You'll find extensive greenbelts and linear parks with accessible riverbanks and gravel paths. South of Munich, the floodplains offer meadows and forests, ideal for low-elevation trail running on surfaces like gravel, solid mud, roots, and grass, without significant climbs.
While the guide primarily lists moderate and difficult routes, the Isar's renaturalized sections and linear parks offer many flatter, accessible paths perfect for beginners. Look for routes that stick close to the riverbanks within Munich or the gentler sections further south for a relaxed run.
Yes, there are several circular running routes. For example, you can explore the Camino de Santiago — circular by Rabé de la Calzada, which is a challenging 15.1 km loop. Another option is the La Fábrica Hostel – Fountain in Rabé de la Calzada loop from Tardajos, a moderate 10.9 km trail.
The Isar's natural landscapes, including its extensive greenbelts and floodplains, are generally very dog-friendly. Many paths are suitable for running with dogs, but always ensure your dog is under control and check for any local regulations regarding leashes, especially in more populated areas or nature reserves.
Absolutely. The Isar's linear parks and accessible riverbanks, particularly within and just outside Munich, offer many flat and safe paths suitable for families. The English Garden, which runs alongside the Isar, also provides extensive, well-maintained paths perfect for a family jog or stroll.
While jogging, you can encounter various points of interest. For example, you might pass by the View of Hontanas, the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Hontanas, or the settlement of Hornillos del Camino. Further south, the Isar floodplains themselves are a designated landscape conservation area, offering natural beauty.
Many sections of the Isar, especially within Munich, are easily accessible via public transport. Numerous bus, tram, and U-Bahn/S-Bahn stops are located close to the river, allowing convenient access to various starting points for your run. For trails further south, regional train services might be an option.
Parking availability varies along the Isar. In urban areas like Munich, street parking or public car parks might be available near popular access points. For routes in more rural sections, designated parking areas are often provided near trailheads or recreational spots. It's advisable to check specific route details for parking information.
Experienced runners looking for a challenge can tackle routes like the Fountain in Rabé de la Calzada – Tardajos loop from Los Llanos, a difficult 35.4 km path with varied terrain. Another option is the Camino de Santiago — circular by Rabé de la Calzada, a challenging 15.1 km trail.
The Isar's appeal extends far beyond running. Its clean, renaturalized sections allow for swimming in designated areas, while gravel banks like Flaucher Island are popular for sunbathing and picnics. The river also offers excellent opportunities for cycling, canoeing, and kayaking. You can even find surfers riding the famous Eisbachwelle on an Isar tributary.
The Isar offers beautiful running conditions throughout much of the year. Spring and autumn provide pleasant temperatures and vibrant scenery. Summer is also popular, especially in the mornings or evenings, with opportunities to cool off in the river. Even in winter, many paths remain accessible, offering a serene running experience amidst snow-dusted landscapes.
