Just a few meters before the footbridge of the Relleu Dam stands this old house, of which logically only its four walls remain today, which is attractive to people who set out to visit this strange place. It seems that many years ago, in this house the guard of the dam lived or at least took refuge.

Alpine experience is REALLY necessary. Very rough/rocky paths, lots of climbing on the slope. The descent is particularly difficult and most hikers there had their shoe soles come apart (or fall off completely). So all the requirements stated on the sign should be observed!

Hiking up to the summit of PUIG CAMPANA mountains is not easy task and required a good fitness conditions. But as a reward one get an unique option to enjoy great view of Marina Alta/Bajo area (make sure you select good sunny day for your hike ). A proper hiking equipment (especially shoes) is important point. Since your hike could exceed nine hours, do not forget to take enough water (especially by nice sunny day). GOOD LUCK and ENJOY your hike in one of most exiting area in Costa Blanca!

There are 5 distinct mountaineering routes detailed in this guide for the Orxeta area. These routes offer a variety of experiences, from moderate climbs to more demanding expeditions.
The terrain around Orxeta is characterized by diverse and rugged mountainous landscapes. You'll encounter significant peaks like Puig Campana, lush valleys fed by the River Sella, and dramatic rock formations composed of ancient Triassic and Cretaceous limestones and marls. The scenic Amadorio Reservoir also features prominently in the natural environment.
While many routes in the area are challenging, there are options for those with moderate experience. For example, the Penya Alta – Alt de Tagarina loop from Serra d'Aitana is classified as moderate, offering a good introduction to the region's mountaineering without being overly strenuous.
Experienced mountaineers will find several demanding routes. The Collado del Llamp – Coveta de la Moscarda loop from Urbanització Polop Paradís is a difficult 11.5 km route with significant elevation gain, providing a true test of endurance and skill.
While specific parking details for each trailhead are best checked on individual route pages, many mountaineering routes in the Orxeta region, especially those starting from villages like Finestrat or near the Amadorio Reservoir, typically have designated parking areas or roadside spots available for hikers.
Public transport options directly to remote trailheads can be limited. It's advisable to check local bus schedules for connections to Orxeta or nearby towns like Finestrat. From there, you might need to arrange for a taxi or consider carpooling to reach the starting points of some routes. For general information about the region, you might find resources on the Visit Benidorm website.
While the guide focuses on mountaineering, which can be strenuous, the broader Orxeta area offers scenic walks around the Amadorio Reservoir and in the lush valleys. These might be more suitable for families looking for less demanding outdoor activities. Always check the difficulty and duration of a route before embarking with children.
The Marina Baixa region generally enjoys a mild climate. Spring and autumn are often considered ideal for mountaineering, offering pleasant temperatures and stable weather conditions. Summers can be very hot, making early morning starts essential, while winters are generally mild but can bring cooler temperatures at higher elevations.
Yes, several routes in the area are designed as loops, allowing you to start and end at the same point. An example is the View from the Summit loop from Cova del Canelobre, which offers a circular journey through rugged mountain terrain.
Many natural areas and trails in Spain are dog-friendly, especially if dogs are kept on a leash. However, specific regulations can vary, particularly in protected areas or on private land. It's always best to check local signage and ensure your dog is well-behaved and capable of handling the terrain and duration of the chosen mountaineering route.
The region is rich in natural beauty. Along the routes, you might encounter stunning viewpoints offering panoramic vistas of the mountains and the coastline. Notable attractions include the Puig Campana Summit itself, or the View of Puig Campana from various vantage points. You could also discover natural monuments like Font Major (Sella) or mountain passes such as Port de Tudons.
The mountaineering routes around Orxeta are highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 4.7 stars. Reviewers often praise the challenging ascents, the extensive views of the surrounding mountain ranges, and the iconic Puig Campana peak, as well as the diverse and rugged natural environment.
