The Plaza de las Palmeras is the center of this small and charming town of Santa Marta de los Barros. As the name suggests, there is a small square with several palm trees surrounded by beautiful colorful houses. This small town for many years was nothing more than a few families living in the area. However, it began to grow in the 1850s and had more than 1,700 residents by 1920. Currently, there are a little more than 1,200 residents who work mainly in the area's agriculture, which is grapes and olive trees.
