It is an abbey of canons regular from the 11th century. Emblematic of Soissons, the remains of the abbey can be visited freely and are worth the detour.

Saint-Jean-des-Vignes is a former monastery in the French city of Soissons. During the French Revolution, the monastery was dissolved and the monastery grounds were converted into barracks. The buildings were also used as a quarry. The monastery church was destroyed by an explosion in the ammunition dump. Today the two-tower facade of the former monastery church, parts of the cloister and the refectory are still preserved from the monastery complex. The site houses changing exhibitions of the city museum and an archaeological center. [de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kloster_Saint-Jean-des-Vignes]
