Jacques Cœur (c. 1395–1456) was a wealthy merchant and royal treasurer born in Bourges, France. He became one of the richest men in the kingdom under King Charles VII, building a vast trading network. Accused of crimes, he fell from power and died in exile. His legacy in Bourges includes the Palais Jacques-Cœur, a magnificent Gothic mansion and major historical site.

In the historic center of Bourges, City of Art and History, the Palais Jacques Cœur is one of the most sumptuous buildings of 15th century civil architecture. A masterpiece of flamboyant Gothic. From February 2025 to June 2026, conservation and restoration work will be undertaken on the tower of the causeway.
