Nice way along the Canal du Midi.

Between Narbonne and Béziers, the Canal du Midi cycle path repeatedly leads in passages on single trails. When the weather is nice, it's a lot of fun to test your skills, especially with a fully packed trekking bike. But a lot of attention is required, the path is mostly close to the water. The canal is sometimes in poor condition in the bank area, so that holes have been created in the way that have to be bypassed. So always be careful!

The Malpas Tunnel takes the Canal du Midi under the hill d'Ensérune. Built in 1679 under the direction of chief engineer Pierre-Paul Riquet, it was Europe's first navigable canal tunnel. (Wikipedia) On one side the canal can be walked. An impressive event for both pedestrians and leisure captains on their houseboats.
