Just after the Col de la Vernède, the gaze plunges towards Roquebrun, nestled at the foot of the reliefs and bordered by the Orb river. The ancient village, dominated by its medieval tower, stands out amidst the vineyards and vegetation. The nearby reliefs that frame it, with their wooded slopes and rocky outcrops, close off the view to the north. This landscape also allows us to read the geology of the valley. Roquebrun lies at the heart of the syncline that bears its name, a vast structure folded during the Variscan orogeny. A syncline corresponds to a large fold whose two limbs generally incline towards the axis, giving the structure the shape of a vast basin. Here, Ordovician terrains occupy the core of the fold, while Devonian limestones notably form the bright cliffs overlooking Roquebrun. Below, the Orb river occupies the valley floor.

The landscape opens onto the hamlet of Ceps, nestled on the banks of the Orb river. This village boasts a Romanesque church from the 12th century, a testament to ancient human presence in this enclosed area. Behind it, the wooded reliefs of the Haut-Languedoc form a natural backdrop that seems to protect the village.

From this developed viewpoint, the Orb valley reveals all its richness. Below, the river draws large meanders between the wooded reliefs of the Haut-Languedoc. In the heart of the valley appears the domain of Graïs, while in the distance the villages of Boissezon and Vieussan integrate into this mountain landscape. This view offers a true reading of the territory: water, rock, and forest have shaped a valley where humans have established their villages by adapting to the terrain.

Roquebrun is much more than a pretty village on the banks of the Orb. Occupied since the Neolithic period, it is dominated by a Carolingian tower built around 900 to watch over the valley. But what makes it truly unique is its microclimate: sheltered from the north winds, it hosts orange, lemon, palm, and cactus trees in the open ground, a very rare phenomenon in the Hérault hinterland. This mildness has earned it the nickname of the "Nice of the Hérault" and has allowed the creation of a remarkable Mediterranean Garden on the terraces overlooking the village. An essential detour, as much for its history as for its atmosphere.

Located in the Jaur valley, in the heart of the Hauts cantons of the Hérault, Riols is a vast rural village typical of the Haut-Languedoc. The village is intimately linked to the history of the abbey of Saint-Pons-de-Thomières, founded in the 10th century, on which it long depended. From the Middle Ages onwards, Riols was part of a network of monastic possessions. Even today, the old center retains its valley setting, crossed by the Jaur, around which the main routes and activities developed. The Pont-Vieux and several structures on the river bear witness to this close relationship between the village and its watercourse.
