Baie de Locquirec

Highlight • Beach

This promontory offers a beautiful view of the beach of the bay and the campsite. The belvedere reveals the fantastic bay of Locquirec and will be totally different from one state of tide to another. With white sand, it is one of the longest beaches in the region and the Eurovelo 4 passes just behind.
At high tide, you can admire the sand and the sea; at low tide the sea is so far away that you can barely see it, instead you can marvel at the stretch of sand with beached boats.

Sainte-Barbe Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

Chapel dating from the 16th century, restored in 1732 (according to inscription). The pinnacle dates from the year 1609 (bears the date). Sainte-Barbe was the chapel of the coastguard whose batteries defended the port of Toul an Héry against the English invader, from the end of the 16th century until the Napoleonic era. It even served as a barracks when, in year IV, it received the artillerymen of the 2nd battalion of the Hautes-Alpes. However, the chapel existed long before the creation of the coastal militias. After the Revolution, the chapel of Sainte-Barbe was regularly maintained by Jacob, former boss of the customs of Toul an Héry, whose two sons, Yves and Joseph, continued as heads of the factory, to preserve the building piously. It belonged, according to René Couffon, to the Morlaix hospital during the Revolution and was sold as national property, then given to the factory on December 7, 1823. The building has been listed on the additional inventory of Historic Monuments since October 9 1934.

Saint-Efflam Greenway

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

In 1916, with the commissioning of the meter-gauge railway, also affectionately known as "Le Petit Train", travelers and goods could be transported between Lannion and Plestin Les Grèves. The operation was entrusted to the Compagnie de Chemins de Fer Armoricains. This connection also contributed significantly to the development of St. Efflam and St. Michel en Grève, with their beautiful beaches, into seaside resorts.
Nevertheless, their potential for the movement of goods is not enough to generate profits. At the end of the 1920s, the increasing popularity of automobiles also emerged as serious competition. The railway line was finally closed in 1937. The memorial plaque, near the former train station in Ploumilliau, tells the short history of this railway line. Today the EV4 (Vélomaritime) cycle path runs on the old railway line.

Saint James Church

Highlight • Historical Site

The pretty church has a Renaissance-style bell tower. Note the painted panels (18th century) of the vaults in the choir and transept. The main altar has a 16th-century altarpiece in high relief with naive scenes from the Passion.

Pont Roux Beach

Highlight • Beach

Watch out, little wonder! At high tide, at least. Pont Roux beach is located below an important archaeological site: Yaudet, a former Gallic and then Gallo-Roman fortress. The sandy area is reduced but tiny creeks all around and the low water level still allow you to find a small corner. The view of the Bay of the Virgin is magnificent, but the steepness of the valley does not allow optimal sunshine. It's better in the second half of the day. The collection of the beach also produces a very characteristic and familiar acoustic resonance. You feel like in a cocoon.

At low tide, the space widens significantly. Be careful, fishing on foot is uncertain because it is often prohibited here.

The apostle "Saint-JACQUES", to whom this church in Locquirec was dedicated, belongs, together with his brother, to the inner circle of Jesus' disciples. In his version of the "Good News" (this is the meaning of the word "gospel"), the evangelist Mark lists the apostles: "James, the son of Zebedee, and John, the brother of James - to whom he gave the nickname Boanerges, that is, sons of thunder" (Mark 3:17). They are said to have been very temperamental, but were loyal followers of Jesus Christ because they recognized in him the promised Messiah. According to the Acts of the Apostles written by the evangelist Luke, James was executed for his faith, making him an early martyr of Christianity. His grave in the place named after him, "Santiago de Compostela" (Galicia, Spain), is one of the most famous and important pilgrimage destinations in the world.
