It is made entirely of cast iron, a very common material in 19th-century hydraulic equipment. It bears the inscription DOUGE FRÈRES / BESANÇON, the signature of an important regional foundry active in the 19th century, known for its drinking fountains, grates, street furniture, and technical components. The drinking fountain is decorated with a corbel, an element sculpted directly into the cast iron. This type of ornamentation was common in industrial production of the time: animals, mascarons, lion heads, or plant motifs were used to give a distinctive character to utilitarian objects.
