Unusual: Here, the road runs directly through the stream—cars drive through the water, while pedestrians use the historic stone bridge. A hidden highlight in an idyllic village.

The Basilica of Bois-Chenu (Roman Catholic) is a gigantic monument in Domremy-La-Pucelle. It is also called the Basilica of Sainte Joan of Arc. It is located about 11 km from Neufchâteau on an idyllic hill in the Vosges Mountains. From this wooded hill, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Meuse Valley, surrounded by numerous blooming orchids. The birthplace of France's national heroine is also nearby. The massive basilica was built from pink granite from the Vosges Mountains! Bronzes of Joan of Arc and her family stand in the forecourt of the basilica.

JEANNE d'ARC, known in German-speaking countries as "JOHANNA von ORLEANS", (1412? to 1431) was an important person in the history of France at the time of the so-called 100 Years' War between the kingdoms of England and France. After her capture, she was condemned as a heretic (at the instigation of the English) and burned, but two and a half decades later (at the instigation of the French) this sentence was overturned. She is the patron saint of France. The music group OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark) dedicated a song to her in the early 1980s: "Maid of Orleans".
