A green space for relaxation, UP Sanctuary was launched at the UP Lagoon in the Academic Oval. Nice mini park with benches to chill and labyrinthine walkways with message boards in the floor, quiet peaceful, surrounded by trees.

The iconic symbol of the University of the Philippines, the Oblation is commonly associated with freedom and its various aspects. Guillermo Tolentino however, inspired by the second stanza of Jose Rizal’s Mi Ultimo Adios, envisioned this monument with its nakedness and outstretched arms to exemplify the virtue of sacrifice in the name of country, thus the term. Its base is an assembly of river stones to symbolize the archipelagic nature of the Philippines, and the kataka-taka leaves that grazes its legs and which is endemic to the country signifies the Filipino people. The Oblation is an excellent portrayal of the classical ideals dignity, balance and restraint as demonstrated in its stance and proportions. Measuring almost 5 meters tall, this statue was unveiled in 1935 by the first Filipino U.P. President, Rafael Palma. In 1949, it was transferred from its original location in U.P. Manila to the Diliman campus escorted by a huge motorcade composed of students, faculty and staff. (https://sculptour.wordpress.com/)

The Philippines offers a diverse range of terrains for runners. Some trails, like the Pinatubo Eco Trail, are known for their changing steepness and varied surfaces.
Yes, Metro Manila offers several family-friendly options. The UP Sanctuary loop from Quezon City is an easy 2.5-mile trail with a shaded, green environment. Rizal Park (Luneta) also provides wide, open spaces perfect for a leisurely family run or walk.
Many routes offer stunning views and pass by significant landmarks. For instance, the Rizal Park Open Air Auditorium – Intramuros loop from Redemptorist–Aseana takes you through historic urban areas. Beyond the city, you might encounter natural wonders like the Chocolate Hills (though typically viewed from platforms), or the majestic Kawasan Falls, which can be part of a scenic trail experience.
Absolutely. For those seeking a challenge, routes like the BGC Greenway loop from Nichols offer a difficult 11.2-mile (18 km) path with challenging elevations. Outside the city, the Itogon, Benguet Trail provides approximately 50km of rough and hilly terrain for advanced runners.

The Philippines has a tropical climate. The dry season, typically from November to May, offers cooler and less humid conditions, making it ideal for outdoor activities like running. While urban centers have popular spots, you can find quieter trails by venturing slightly outside the main cities. The BGC Greenway offers a calming route away from the immediate city bustle. For a more nature-immersed experience, consider trails in eco-parks or regions like Palaui Island with its Lagunza Trail, offering beautiful beach scenery and coastal hills.
Yes, the Philippines is rich in natural water features. While not always directly on a running path, some trails lead to or are near waterfalls. For instance, Kawasan Falls in Cebu is a stunning natural attraction, and while primarily known for canyoneering, the surrounding natural beauty can be appreciated through nearby trails.
Beyond Metro Manila, the Philippines offers diverse running experiences. The mountainous regions provide challenging trails, such as those near Mount Pulag Summit for rewarding uphill runs. Coastal areas like Palaui Island offer scenic beach and hill trails. Cebu also has various trails, and the Pinatubo Eco Trail in Central Luzon provides a medium-difficulty run through unique landscapes.
