Very impressive bridge built into the mountain massif. Looking from the bridge into the gorge makes you a bit scared :-) The Salginatobel Bridge is a highlight in the history of bridge construction. Since its completion in 1930, it has had a magical effect on professionals and artists as an outstanding engineering achievement and as a modern work of art. In 1991, the American Society of Civil Engineers declared this extraordinary bridge a "world monument". A total of 50 buildings today form the small circle of the most important engineering creations, including well-known ones such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Inca city of Machu Picchu in Peru, the endless Ifugao rice terraces in the northern Philippines, and the Hagia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul , the Alaska Highway or the Panama Canal. In 1999, the renowned British trade journal "Bridge - design & engineering" voted the Salginatobel Bridge the most beautiful bridge of the 20th century, and at the end of 2016 the Swiss Federal Council put it on the "list indicative" as a possible candidate for UNESCO World Heritage. A church building under the patronage of St. John was first documented in 1101. The oldest structure, which indicates two previous buildings from the 5th and 6th centuries, can be found today in the garden of the neighboring vicarage. In the early years of the Reformation 1519-22, but before it was accepted in Prättigau, a new building was built. After the devastation caused by the Graubünden turmoil, this building was restored in 1641 and again in 1768 after massive fire damage. The church tower dates back to the time when the church was founded and was raised in 1768 and given a helmet roof in 1926. An 18th-century bell is kept on the southern outer wall of the church to commemorate the village fire. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reformierte_Kirche_St._Johann_(Schiers) p.s.
