This section is beautiful; a good gravel road makes for a leisurely and relaxing ride along the Aare River between Wangen and Solothurn. However, part of the route is closed until the end of 2027 due to the expansion of the A1 motorway. A partially signposted detour is in place.

Unfortunately, a lot is changing with the lane widening of the A1, as embankments have been cleared and a lane for construction vehicles has been built.

Wangen an der Aare is a municipality and capital of the administrative district of Oberaargau in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The little town with the historic town center is located in a rural setting directly on the large Mittelland river Aare between the towns of Olten and Solothurn, but belongs to the Bernese Oberaargau. An old covered wooden bridge crosses the river. Wangen an der Aare was also the main town of the former district of the same name. In the municipal area, the small river Ösch flows into the Aare as a mill stream. Neighboring communities are Attiswil, Wiedlisbach, Walliswil near Wangen and Wangenried. In the west, the municipality borders on the canton of Solothurn.

The Niederbipp Reformed Church, located outside the village at the southern foot of the Jura, dates back to a medieval church and received its current appearance in 1669 and 1712. During these years, the building was converted into a hall church with a gable roof and a polygonal choir. The front tower from 1518-21 is modeled on that of Oberbipp. The interior includes an elaborately carved Renaissance pulpit, a baptismal font from the 18th century and stained glass windows by Robert Giesbrecht from 1910. Directly on the cycle path on the Aare, this bench invites you to take a break. On the other side of the path is a small pond where ducks frolic.

scenic path on the Aare. Swimming in the river is challenging due to the high flow speed... Unfortunately, the nearby A1 is constantly noisy.
