Around 3000 years ago, pile dwellers settled on the shores of Lake Hallwil. Impressive remains of their buildings were discovered in 1923 in Seengen-Riesi, in what is now the Riesi Moor Reserve. In addition to well-preserved wooden structures, ceramics, jewelry, millstones and tools were also found. The site is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps". The reconstruction of a pile dwelling nearby tells the story. It has been replaced in recent months. This is because the original reconstruction, created in 1988, had sunk more than a meter into the ground over the years and had also repeatedly suffered from flooding: the small wooden building was recently in such a bad condition that it could no longer be saved. Finally, the cantonal archaeology department, together with the municipality, the Burghalde Lenzburg Museum and the Rotary Clubs of Lenzburg and Lenzburg-Seetal, decided to replace the building. The shell of the building is now complete and the roof was recently fitted with shingles.
