The Saale is a river that is partly well developed for tourism and is fun to ride a bike or hike on. Many rest stops offer places to rest.

At the end of Seitenroda, in the direction of Wolfersdorf, there are two old stone crosses on the right side of the street. Until 1963 there were three. The middle was a rest that was shaped like an angle. This has been lost in road construction work. The western cross is made of massive colored sandstone and bears a chiseled sword tip at the lower end. The eastern cross is made of shell limestone. I don't know anything about the meaning of the crosses. The part of the land on the other side of the street is also called "Kreuzacker". Lit .: "Stone Landmarks in East Thuringia", by H. Deubler, R. Künstler, G. Ost, 1976

An idyllic meadow path leads from Seitenbrück to Seitenroda with a wonderful view of the Leuchtenburg. About half way, before you get to the small pond in the garden, a path goes left into the valley.
