The Beutnitz Church is probably the oldest building in the Gleistal Valley. During archaeological excavations in 2010, the foundations of a Romanesque apse from the previous building were discovered in the choir. The tower is remarkable in several respects. There are two additional floors above the vaulted choir. In addition to an entrance from the attic, there is a gate on the east side at the height of the first floor, which was apparently accessible via a kind of drawbridge. Also significant about the tower is the slated half-timbered upper floor, evidently the oldest of its kind in Thuringia. The current nave has undergone several alterations. The spiral stone, which led to a west gallery, and the portal jamb from the late Gothic period have been preserved. The design of the entrance portal can be found in a similar form in the Jena City Church.

Particularly striking is a huge cloud vortex called the "Great Red Spot." This is a gigantic cyclone discovered well over 300 years ago and has been raging in the atmosphere ever since. Jupiter's moons are at least as interesting for research as Jupiter itself.
